Restorative Treatment

The majority of work provided by dentists nowadays is aimed at conserving and retaining the natural dentition for as long as possible prior to extracting and replacing them. Restorative dentistry is the act of restoring the function of a tooth which would have been damaged mainly by tooth decay. Fillings are nowadays the mainstay of dentistry and are the most common treatment provided within our dental practice.

The majority of tooth restorations (also known as fillings) are nowadays available in tooth coloured (white fillings) variations. The era of metal alloy (grey or black fillings) is phasing out in an effort to reduce the impact of mercury disposal that harms the natural environment.

Tooth coloured restorations which can be fabricated directly in the patients mouth are referred to as fillings whereas, ones which are constructed outside a patients mouth and cemented in the mouth at a later stage are referred to as crowns, bridges or inlay/onlays.

A variety of materials to construct such restorations are provided at our clinic namely:

• Composite or resin restorations
• Glass Ionomer restorations/ temporary fillings
• Porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crowns and bridges
• Full Ceramic e.MAX or Zirconia (metal free) crowns , bridges & onlays

Another important branch of restorative dentistry is endodontic therapy, also known as Root Canal Treatments. The purpose of this treatment is to avoid the extraction and loss of severely damaged tooth whose nerve is necrotic (dead) as a result of deep , extensive & untreated tooth decay. By root treating a tooth, the patient benefits in keeping the tooth for a longer time and thus chew & bite normally. It is nowadays recommended that following root canal treatments, teeth are crowned and hence protected from irreparable damage following root canal treatment. The course of endodontic treatment is normally as follows:

1. Identifying tooth which is presenting with pain and requires treatment.
2. Choosing whether to extract tooth or performing root canal treatment.
3. Undergoing root canal treatment in 1, 2, or 3 visits according on complexity and presenting circumstances
4. Restoring the tooth with a post (metal or fiberglass)
5. Placement of a crown

Implant treatment is the answer to replacing a missing tooth or teeth. Implant therapies vary in type and cost but all revolve around the main concept of directly attaching a dental prosthesis within the patient’s own bone and without the support of any (if at all) of the patient’s current dentition. In doing so this provides the ideal tooth replacement therapy for missing teeth as this is the most conservative and predictable manner.

Our clinic is equipped with the latest of equipment needed in providing excellent implant treatment. The clinic has an in-house digital 3D CBCT scanner used to thoroughly assess and plan implant treatment digitally prior to the day of the surgery. Our cases are all planned digitally in house with the use of Straumann CoDx software which is then used to export and 3D print a custom surgical guide for that patient. This allows us to predictably, accurately and safely place implants exactly based on the patient's own anatomical requirements with little to no postoperative discomfort to the patients. Using this method, most surgeries can be performed without the need of incisions (flapless surgery) or the need for additional bone grafts where possible. In order to obtain such excellent results, only top quality Swiss Implants known as Straumann Implants are used.

The Clinic has recently invested heavily in the latest & most innovative dental imaging solutions. With the acquisition of Carestream CS8100 3D our clinic is able to cater both for in-house 3D digital dentistry & digital implant dentistry as well as provide our services to other clinics which are not equipped with such technology but wish to offer the same quality & complexity of services to their patients.

The ability to visualize teeth, bone and other anatomical structures in 3D allows us to provide more accurate diagnosis that leads to better treatment planning and accurate predictable treatment outcomes.

3D X-rays are used for a variety of reasons, such as:
